Arsenal starlet Fran Merida looks set to turn down overtures form Atletico Madrid and Sevilla after he revealed he is talks over a new deal at Emirates Stadium.

Former Barcelona youngster Merida is out of contract with the Gunners at the end of the season which had alerted twho of Spain's biggest club, who are keen to lure the midfield maestro back to his homeland.

However, the 19-year-old, who scored a superb goal for the Gunners in Wednesday's Carling Cup fourth round victory over Liverpool, insists he is happy in London and wants to stay at Arsenal.

"At the moment I am talking to the club so I don't know what will happen," Merida told the London Evening Standard.

"Hopefully, everything is going to be all right but we are going to sit down and talk about it. I am really happy here and things are going OK. I am really happy in London, too, so we will see what happens."

Merida was delighted to net his first goal for the club against Liverpool and he believes Arsene Wenger's side can go all the way in this season's Carling Cup.

"It was my first goal for the club so I am really happy, especially as we won against a really tough team," added Merida

"The young players get a chance to play in the Carling Cup and we have to prove as individuals and as a team that we can play.

We proved last night that we can beat anyone but we have to keep our feet on the floor and keep working hard."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is understood to be keeping a close eye on Mexican wonderkid Martin Galvan after receiving rave reviews on the Cruz Azul starlet.

Galvan, 16, is already courting plenty of attention in his homeland and in South America after becoming the youngest player in Mexican football history to feature in the top-flight at 14 years and 335 days.

His talent and performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe, with Barcelona reported to have invited Galvan for a trial in 2006, but he was unable to make the trip to Catalunya.

And now the Daily Mirror are reporting that Wenger is now keeping a close eye on his development after being alerted to him following Galvan's three goals in three appearances for Mexico's Under-17 side at the CONCACAF U17 Championship earlier this year.

The Gunners already have one Mexican on their books in Carlos Vela, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium when he was just 16 in 2006, but the spent three years on loan at various clubs in Spain as he was still not eligible for a work permit.
