If he’s got any sense, Robbie Keane will be quieter than a Champions League night at the Emirates for the next few days. But in fairness, Robbie didn’t get it all wrong, did he? He was at least half right:

“In the last four or five years Arsenal always managed to get ahead of us (CORRECT) but if you look now it is even (INCORRECT)

"It will be judged at the end of the season (CORRECT) but if you look at the bench we have, it is probably a bit stronger than their bench (INCORRECT)”

Of course, you could also wonder about accuracy of that line about “the last four or five years”. Seems a touch lot longer than that, if memory serves. But Harry Redknapp isn’t about to criticise his skipper for providing Arsenal’s team talk on Saturday.

“I’m not giving up on the Champions League, it’s not impossible, it’s all about a couple of points,” boomed Redknapp, presumably those points being a) scoring lots of goals and b) not letting as many in.

“It’s nice proving people wrong in life,” he added, sentiments no doubt echoed by Robin van Persie when he shook Keane’s hand on Saturday.

Keane’s point about bench strength looked particularly odd when Roman Pavlyuchenko languidly entered the fray, looking, as ever, like Rudolph Nureyev without the codpiece.

In fairness, Arsenal sub Eduardo was bad enough to make Keane’s bench-bashing seem slightly more justified. But that’s probably not much comfort for Robbie: if Eduardo had played well, Spurs would have lost 6-0.

Barcelona’s copycat chase of two of Arsenal’s Under 18 starlets has been stepped up with Barça represenatives making formal offers for both Benik Afobe and Chukwuemeka Aneke to visit their Catalan base for talks.

Explosive midfielder Aneke has spurred the European Champions advances, preferring to remain with Arsenal, but Afobe is set to jet out during the week after completing England Under 17 duty where his 4 goals in 3 games earned him player of the tournament.

Barcelona were scouting Benik and since then the worlds media have taken our story and run with it, including the UK’s ‘Gutter Press’. The 16-year-old’s agent is speaking daily with the Blaugrana while Liam Brady must mull over whether to offer improved terms to the striker who has been offered a standard professional contract on his 17th birthday.

Barça are awaiting the green light from the player before showing their hand in the form of a deal. Up to £5500 a week in wages has been mooted but whether the terms materialise will be down to Afobe’s reaction after looking checking out their facilities. West Ham have previously tried to sign the bulky frontman who has 7 Academy League goals this term – making him joint top scorer.

Under the strict financial rules of the City, Kroenke would be obliged to make a formal offer for the remainder of the shares in Arsenal - and be expected to have enough funds available to do so.

And the worrying thing for their opponents is that Arsène Wenger believes his side will get even better.

Arsenal have plundered 36 goals in 11 games. Tottenham managed 111 when they finished second to Everton in 1962-63, but that was in the old league, and Manchester United came close in 2000 with 97. No side have managed a ton in the Premier League. But at this rate it seems a feasible target for Arsenal.
