How the fixtures are produced The new fixtures will be released on 17th June. We go behind the scenes to look at how they are compiled.
For millions of fans, the next year of their lives is about to be decided, writes Graham Hiley.
Officials from the Premier League and the Football League are meeting this week to draw up the fixture lists for the 2009/10 campaign.
These will be released on this site at 10am (BST) on Wednesday 17th June so make sure you log on then for full details.

Complicated Process
It is one of the most eagerly-awaited dates of the calendar and the fixtures team are acutely aware of the responsibility on their shoulders.
Compiling the fixture lists is a hugely complicated process which starts from scratch each year and which cannot even begin until after the Championship play-off final when the full line-up is known for each division.
Some of the groundwork though is done in the preceding weeks when questionnaires are sent to clubs for requests and input on dates to avoid. The questionnaires and date requests are also considered by each club's local police force. For instance the Great North run impacts on teams in the north-east.
Neighbouring clubs across the divisions are paired together to ensure they do not play at home on the same dates. For example, in the West Midlands Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers will be at home when Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion are away.
Other criteria include:
*Wherever possible clubs should have no more than two successive home (or away) fixtures, excluding cup draws.
*All clubs should have an alternating sequence of home and away Saturday fixtures at both the beginning and end of the season.
*Any club away on Boxing Day should be at home on New Year's day and vice versa. Local derbies are avoided on these dates but equally distance of journeys should be minimised. If possible, clubs should have an equal number of home and away fixtures on Bank Holidays, if applicable.
*Clubs playing in the Europa League on a Thursday will have the option of moving a Saturday fixture to a Sunday so, where possible, these should be home matches.
Locked Away
These factors are all programmed into the fixtures computer which then produces a draft list for initial review by the compilation team who consider - along with many other aspects - date requests and pairings which have not been satisfied.
A second review is performed by the fixtures working party in consultation with club representatives, the FA and the National Supporters Association.
It is almost impossible to create a schedule which meets all the requests but the compilers will spend hours locked away studying the draft fixtures to minimise the problems and ensure no one club, league or set of supporters is unduly penalised.
Premier League registrations and fixtures manager Mark Annett explained: "We do our utmost to produce a set of fixtures which meets as many of the police and club requests as possible, usually more than 80 per cent. It is not easy but we try to get the best possible fit.
"We try to make sure the fixtures are as fair as possible with no club being disadvantaged. For example, teams should not play three or more consecutive home or three consecutive away Premier League matches.
"Where possible we seek to minimise midweek travel but this can have an adverse effect on the date requests and other factors and we strive to retain as much a random element as possible in the interests of fairness. That said, we do try to bear fans in mind where travel is concerned, particularly over the Christmas period when transport is not always easy.
"With so many internationals and European dates, it is not easy fitting all the matches in, especially as next season will be two weeks shorter than the 2008/09 season. It starts on 15th August but finishes on 9th May to allow extra preparation time for the World Cup.
"We also have to work round events like political conferences, carnivals and other major sporting events so we work closely with the police as well as with the Football League."
Demanding Task
Annett added: "We start with the fixture questionnaires sent to the clubs. Once a sequence is established, the dates are fed into the computer which produces a draft set of fixtures which are then considered by the compilation team and then the Fixture Working Party and the Association of Police Chief Officers.
"This process requires manual changes but altering even one match can have a knock-on effect on many others and may require another dozen switches. We will sometimes even make changes as late as the day before the fixtures are released.
"It is a very pressurised and demanding task. We lock ourselves away for a week and spend the time poring over them.
"It is hard work but I enjoy it. It is quite a thrill to be part of something so momentous as we know fans will plan holidays, travel, even weddings around the dates.
"We have to be as fair as possible and totally discreet. No-one but the compilation team can take away the final draft which is then given to the Press Association ready for release.
"Often you will get fans who claim to know the fixtures but no-one does - not until 10am on 17th June when the internet almost goes into meltdown such is the interest. "

Nedved confirms his retirement from football
Quote:
Former Juventus and Lazio midfielder Pavel Nedved has announced his retirement from football.
The 36-year-old has been mulling over several offers to continue his illustrious career, but has decided to hang up his boots instead.
A statement on his official website read: "I have decided not to accept any of the offers I received in recent weeks, and finally end my career. I will now dedicate my time to my family, wife, and children.
"I would like to thank the fans for all the support they showed me throughout my career."
Nedved spent the majority of his career in Italy after joining Lazio from Sparta Prague in 1996. He won the Coppa Italia in 1998 and in 2000.
He also lifted the 1999/00 Scudetto, the 1999 Cup Winners Cup, the 1999 Super Cup and the Super Coppa Italiana in 1998 and in 2000.
Nedved then joined Juventus in 2001 after Zinedine Zidane made his world record move to Real Madrid.
At the Old Lady he won both the Serie A title and the Super Coppa Italiana in 2002 and 2003. He also won the Ballon d'Or in 2003.
Ex-Italian goalkeeper and former Lazio coach Dino Zoff paid tribute to Nedved. He said: "Nedved has always been an example for everyone, from the first moment he arrived at Lazio, until his last at Juventus. I am really sad that someone like Nedved has stopped playing."
"I think that if he made a decision like this, then he would have taken everything into consideration. Nedved leaves nothing to chance, he was also like that on the pitch. He probably thought about leaving on a high in order to leave a great memory of himself."
"The fact that he didn't win the Champions League doesn't tarnish an extraordinary career," added Zoff.

Football Association seek new FA Cup sponsor
Quote:
The Football Association is on the hunt for a new backer after it confirmed energy giant E.ON will not be renewing its sponsorship deal with the FA Cup at the end of the 2009-10 season.
E.ON's four-year deal was understood to be worth £32million to the FA and a search will now begin for a new sponsor for the tournament.
An FA spokesman said: "The FA can confirm that E.ON's sponsorship of the FA Cup will come to a close at the end of the current 2009/10 season. The FA would like to thank E.ON for its investment into and support of the competition to date. We now look forward to taking the FA Cup sponsorship opportunity to the open market for the 2010/14 period."
E.ON said changes to its UK sponsorship strategy meant it was not pursuing a renewal of the FA Cup deal.
FA chiefs are confident that the market value of the competition remains high and that they will attract an equal or bigger deal for the next four-year cycle.
The FA has still to agree a deal for the TV rights for the FA Cup made available by the collapse of Setanta which has left the organisation facing a £70million shortfall.

Bates blast: Youngsters traded like "horsemeat"
Quote:
Former Chelsea chairman and current Leeds United supremo Ken Bates has launched a withering attack on Premier League clubs for recruitment policies that he says treats young players like "horsemeat".
Bates was bought out of Chelsea by Roman Abramovich in 2003 and later entered into a furious row over the Blues' luring of two of Leeds' youngsters. He told the Daily Mail that the likes of Chelsea, banned from transfer dealing by FIFA over their signing of French youngster Gael Kakuta from Lens, and Manchester United, in dispute with Le Havre over their addition of Paul Pogba, are endemic of a culture where big clubs are poaching other clubs' players.
"The problem here is that the big clubs are stripping the small clubs of their youngsters,' he said. 'They are like Japanese fishing trawlers, just sweeping up everything in their nets. The big clubs treat the little clubs like ****. Right now some of these boys are just being traded like horsemeat."
Press reports in England suggest that the Kakuta case may well be the tip of the iceberg with the Guardian reporting that Chelsea are facing a legal threat over the signing of an 11-year-old, Jérémy Boga from junior French club ASPTT Marseille. It is also reported that Fiorentina are compiling a similar dossier to that which has so hampered Chelsea after confirming that they are going ahead with an official complaint to UEFA over United's signing of their Under-16 captain, Michele Fornasier. Reggina have lodged a similar complaint over the loss of Vincenzo Camilleri to Chelsea.
Bates believes Chelsea have finally got their comeuppance and wants similar action taken against Manchester City and Everton. Three years ago, Bates secured £5m for Tom Taiwo and Michael Woods, who he accused Chelsea of stealing from under Leeds' noses. Spurs were also forced to pay £1m for Danny Rose. He is now in dispute with Everton over the signing of Luke Garbutt and Manchester City over promising teenagers George Swann and Louis Hutton.
Bates said: "If you break the rules the chickens will come to roost. Big clubs who strip other clubs' youth policy should face stiff penalties. How can Manchester City pay £24 million for Joleon Lescott and take two of our 14-year-olds - and only offer us £70,000? They've spent £200m on new players and that's all they are offering.
"On Monday we have a tribunal for Luke Garbutt, who Everton nicked from us. I hope the ruling that has been handed down from FIFA on Chelsea will set the scene. It certainly sends a message to the Football League compensation tribunal about compensation. I'm not just talking about Leeds. Lots of smaller clubs than us have been stripped of their best kids and they should be adequately compensated."
Garbutt, 16, is captain of England's under-17 side, and was at Leeds United until the summer when he joined Everton.

Robinho welcomes Barca interest as rumours grow
Quote:
Robinho has done little to quell reports that he could join Barcelona in January by admitting it is "not easy" to turn down Pep Guardiola's Treble winners.
The Brazilian was Manchester City's star acquisition last summer when joining the club from Real Madrid in a British record £32m deal, but recent reports have indicated that Robinho could well return to Spain to join Madrid's great rivals, Barca.
Despite signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Inter Milan, the Spanish champions are believed to be searching for another forward and Robinho would be a natural replacement for the ageing Thierry Henry in Barca's talented squad.
The 25-year-old boasts 14 goals in 33 league games under Mark Hughes but has left his suitors in no doubt that he would welcome the opportunity to move to Camp Nou.
"It's not easy to say no to a club like Barcelona," Robinho is quoted in the Guardian. "They are European champions, they're in a lovely city and I like Spain a lot.
"I have always wanted to play at clubs like Barcelona. It's a great club, any player would be happy for them to show an interest. I'm happy that Barcelona have taken notice of me.
"Who wouldn't like to play alongside Xavi, [Andres] Iniesta, [Lionel] Messi, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and all the rest? I like Barcelona; they're a great club."
Robinho is a doubt for City's game against Arsenal at the weekend after sustaining a thigh injury as Brazil clinched World Cup qualification with a 3-1 victory at arch rivals Argentina on Saturday night.
memang aura that yellow jersey power la
sebab tiap kali jika robinho main untuk brasil
memang overall performance naik punya la
- sentiasa chase back
- sentiasa close down oppo

Ronaldo who? Study by Sky+HD and football expert reveals the Premier League's new free-kick kings
Quote:
With one of the world's most accomplished free kick takers gone, a host of Premier League new boys are lining up to fill Ronaldo's boots. A study by top football expert Dr Ken Bray, using Sky+HD technology, has pinpointed the free kick takers best placed to cause havoc to even the most sturdy of Premier League defences this season - and the results are not who you might expect!
Footage captured by Sky Sports' high definition cameras has enabled Dr Bray, a Senior Visiting Fellow of the University of Bath's Department of Mechanical Engineering, to study high definition footage of last season's Premier League and Championship free-kick takers.
Surprisingly, the top pretenders to Ronaldo's throne come not from the division's biggest clubs, but are newly-promoted Burnley's Robbie Blake and Sunderland's Kieron Richardson.
The predicted top free kick-takers to watch out for in the 2009/10 Barclays Premier League season are:
1. Kieran Richardson - Sunderland
2. Robbie Blake - Burnley
3. Fabio Aurelio - Liverpool
4. Steven Gerrard - Liverpool
5. Didier Drogba - Chelsea
The high definition footage allowed Dr Bray to analyse every precise detail and movement of the players' techniques and the resulting movement of the ball.
Dr Bray's findings reveal that:
Quote:
Kieran Richardson opts for a replication of Ronaldo's famous 'knuckleball' style, now renamed 'The Richardson Rattler'. Of his winning free kick against Newcastle United last season, Dr Bray comments: "Richardson hits the ball with speed and passes the wall about shoulder height. The ball, however, takes a fast and unexpected deviation to the goalkeeper's right.
"There is virtually no spin until the last few yards of its flight when very slight rotation is evident. If Richardson can reproduce this technique consistently, he will be a worthy successor to Ronaldo."
Quote:
Burnley striker Robbie Blake achieves 'absolutely perfect side spin' with his kicks, given the title 'The Blake Beauty'. Of his example against Preston North End last season, Dr Bray comments: "This free kick should be in every coaching manual and is one of the best examples of a perfectly-executed side spin shot."
Quote:
Liverpool's Fabio Aurelio is also exceptionally skilled in sidespin kicking, and the fact that he is left-footed is an added advantage when the kick is taken wide on the right hand side of the pitch and will be a great threat when he's fit again.
Quote:
Team mate Steven Gerrard merits inclusion for his power and absolute precision in striking the ball and his ability to exploit opportunistic kicks. Dr Bray notes: "It would be impossible to exclude him from any list of elite free kickers."
Quote:
Didier Drogba may be tussling with Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack to take Chelsea's kicks this year but is one to watch in view of his fantastic topspin technique, 'The Drogba Dropper'. His goal against Hull City and near miss against Liverpool last season confirm that he has mastered this very difficult skill.
Dr Bray comments: "Free kicks are vital components of the modern game and appeal to fans thanks to the explosive nature of the spectacle and the artistry demonstrated by the game's elite. Sky's high definition technology is so much detailed and clearer than standard transmissions it is the ideal medium to bring out the subtleties of this important skill. By portraying ball movement and spin, much of the accessible science underpinning free kick techniques can be revealed."
Sky's Director of Product Management, Hilary Perchard, commented: "More than ever high definition is bringing new levels of insights and uncovering intriguing hidden aspects of players and the game. We're sure football fans will now be scrutinising all the players kicks this season to see if they can all live up to Dr Bray's predictions."

A staggering decision
Quote:
I am staggered by the UEFA decision to charge Arsenal striker Eduardo for 'deceiving the referee'.
It was a very strange ruling and especially considering it was for something that was unclear.
For all we know Eduardo might have been touched by the keeper - and in the laws of the game you don't have to be hammered, there only has to be the intent to tackle for a foul to be awarded - or he may just have been trying to protect his leg he injured last year.
In the modern game it is so difficult to decide if it is a dive - footballers travel at such a pace it only takes the slightest nudge to put them off balance. It is a really strange one for me.
It has also opened a massive can of worms. It encourages people to complain about and contest every decision. For instance, when a guy claims for a corner when he knows it isn't a corner - that's trying to deceive the referee, isn't it?
All the Bristol City players who said Freddie Sears' 'goal' for Crystal Palace didn't go in were deceiving the referee - do we go back and charge all of them?
Arsene Wenger thought Ryan Babel went over softly in the Champions League two seasons ago to win a penalty late on - do we go that far back? Should Babel be retrospectively charged?
I saw Howard Webb book a young Fiorentina player in midweek for trying to win a penalty. I actually thought it was a penalty but he was shown a yellow card for simulation - so Eduardo does the same and could get a two game ban? Was the Fiorentina player not deceiving Howard Webb by diving?
All I can say is let's hope if we see a Barcelona, Real Madrid or Milan player do a similar thing this season UEFA are as quick to react as they were with Eduardo. It's not for me to say but their dislike of the English sides' dominance is well documented.

tu antara yg aku highlight
banyak lagi boleh highlight dalam example tu
point yg aku tanya

jangan dok komen tentang tu .. hehe
aku nak ajak diskas pasal kes eduardo ni
kesan pada game
tu antara contoh andy gray noted down
tak ke gila & hura hara nanti
confirm dalam big games
ada je in-decisive verdict dari officials
lepas game .. mesti nak appeal
lebih lagi .. yg melibatkan tournament .. macam
- champs league
- fa cup
- world cup
aku baru tau si andy gray ni otai bola dulu rupenye...
tapi betol arr, keji tol hukuman uefa pade eduardo...mamat tu bukannye appeal untuk penalti pon...lgpon,aku rase, diving ni mende biase dalam bola...tu yang menambah warna dalam game ni,kite jadik skt ati kalu team kite terkene tp hepi kalu dive n dapat penalti...uefa x fikir la tu,tindakan die pade eduardo ni leh menyebabkan melambak kelab akan appeal macam2 mende...
bro bok, betol ke platini anti kelab england ah?macam betol jek...aku macam nampak sifat dengki die tu tau...dulu2 era spain n italy dominate, xde pon orang memekak n menyalak...

intention to dive as to make the goalie the scapegoat
cuma aku memang tak suka sorang dua ref
