PERFECT RECORD FOR THAIS WITH WIN OVER MALAYSIA
PHUKET (10 Dec 2008) – Thailand won Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 with a perfect record at the end of match day three here at the Surakul Stadium when they beat Malaysia 3-0.
Spoiler:
The hosts, who had earlier beaten Vietnam 2-0 in their first game and then Laos 6-0 in their second group tie, picked up the full points this evening with goals off he win with goals off Sutee Suksomkit (20th minute), Teerasil Dangda (46th minute and 76th minute).
"Obviously, we are delighted with all the players as they got time on the pitch," said Peter Reid, the head coach for Thailand.
"We've worked very hard on the training ground. We attack and defend as a team.
"And at the moment, we are looking pretty solid."
It was Malaysia who created the first chance of the game when Indra Putra Mahayuddin turned in a swerving freekick which forced Thai keeper Kittisak Rawangpa to scramble for the save
After that, it was all Thailand as they pressed the Malaysians buoyed by the fact that they were backed by close to 15,000 screaming fans.
In the seventh minute, a cross froom Datsakorn Thonglao saw Suree Sukha playing a dummy but it was cleared by the Malaysian defence.
Five minutes later, a cross from the right off Sutee Suksomkit saw no takers while in the 18th minute, Sutee almost caught Malaysian keeper Syed Adney Syed Hussein off his line.
But the Thais finally took the lead when Sutee fired in a shot from a tight angle following a cross from Suree.
The game changed little after that as Thailand kept up the pressure as Malaysia took a more defensive stance.
But the Thais were quick in the second half as following the failure of keeper Syed Adney Syed Hussein to block a shot from Teeratehp Winothai, the ever alert Teerasil just blasted in the rebound.
The second goal put Malaysia under a lot more pressure and they came close in a 69th minute melee, but there were no takers to blast the ball in.
Thailand replied when Ronnachai Rangsiyo broke through but Syed Adney was there to deny him.
Six minute later, Thailand wrapped up the game with the third goal of the evening when Ronnachai played the ball short for Teerasil to slam home.
"It is difficult to play the game when we are under pressure to win," said B. Sathianathan, the head coach for Malaysia.
"We started the second half badly and we were not disciplined at the back."

Tickets for 2010 World Cup go on sale
Tickets for the 2010 World Cup went on sale on the internet and in bank branches around South Africa on Friday, with organisers declaring it was irrevocable proof that the finals would go ahead in the country.
Some 700,000 tickets for the first World Cup hosted in Africa are available for purchase out of a total of just over 3 million for the 64 games between June 11-July 11 next year.
Fans have until the end of March to apply for tickets before going into a random draw lottery in April to determine the successful applicants.
Spoiler:
Quote:
"The beginning of this part of the build-up to the World Cup is our irrevocable promise that we make to the people of the world that all is in place and will be ready for 2010," said Organising Committee chief executive officer Danny Jordaan.
The readiness of South Africa's stadiums and infrastructure has come under scrutiny but FIFA President Sepp Blatter said in December there was "no plan B".
Some 20 million applications were received during the first phase of the sales process for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, which was conducted entirely on line.
Immediate figures were not available from FIFA or the Organising Committee for the first hours of Friday's sales but Jordaan said he had been told the response had been good.
"We have had people queuing up at the banks to get application forms. We are very happy with the response we have had, it seems there is huge interest."
FIFA had to issue a statement on Thursday apologising for the fact not all bank branches had yet had the ticket application forms delivered.
"We kindly ask fans for patience and would like to remind them that the first ticket sales is not conducted on a first come, first serve basis," it said.
"All the applicants who correctly apply for tickets between 20 February and 31 March 2009 will have an equal opportunity of obtaining the tickets for which they have applied."
Tickets prices range from US$20 to US$900, a drastic increase in the standard U$1.50 to US$2.50 supporters pay for entry to South African premier league matches.

Bolivia 6-1 Argentina: Mardona's mob thrashed
Joaquin Botero netted a hat-trick to help Bolivia hammer Argentina 6-1 and keep their slim 2010 World Cup hopes alive.
Although Lucho Gonzalez brought Diego Maradona's side level in the first half but the onslaught that followed stunned Argentina.
Marcelo Martins, Alex Da Rosa and Didi Torrico scored one each in the historic win with Botero particularly potent for Bolivia.
Argentina had beaten Venezuela 4-0 on Saturday but were a completely different side tonight while Bolivia also discarded the form book.
Spoiler:
Quote:
Bolivia started the match positively - perhaps helped by the controversial altitude factor, 3,600metres above sea level - and tested goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo with several early shots.
The Lazio custodian saved a left-footed shot by Martins after Luis Gatti Ribeiro penetrated Argentina's defence from the right in the ninth minute, 60 seconds before the keeper also stopped a Da Rosa strike from outside the box.
Bolivia took the lead deservedly in the 11th minute as Martins was assisted by Botero and profited from a defensive mistake by Emiliano Papa to open the scoring with his right foot.
Seconds later, a long-distance shot by Botero could have doubled the lead but the ball went wide.
Argentina struggled to regroup until Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez began to capitalise on Bolivia's defensive mistakes.
In the 20th minute the Barcelona star tried to lob the ball over Bolivia keeper Carlos Arias after combining with Tevez but Arias saved.
Five minutes later, Arias was not so reliable as he failed to stop a long-distance shot by Lucho Gonzalez, who netted his first goal in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers to level the match.
Bolivia scored a timely second after Argentina had wasted further chances.
In the 33rd minute Arias saved an attempt by Messi after another defensive error by Bolivia and, in the following play, Carrizo failed to collect the ball and Javier Zanetti fouled Da Rosa in the box.
Botero gave the hosts the lead from the spot.
Twelve minutes later, Messi's free-kick was saved by Arias who then launched the ball forward with Papa making a crucial mistake. Botero then found Da Rosa who headed home before the half-time whistle.
Bolivia needed only nine minutes after the interval to stretch the scoring as Martins eluded Papa again and Botero headed the ball to score his third goal.
Maradona tried to mix things up by sending on Angel Di Maria for Maxi Rodriguez only for the young winger to be sent off in the 63rd minute for a bad foul on Ronald Garcia.
Three minutes later Botero caused Papa nightmares again, netting his side's fifth goal before Torrico added another three minutes from time.
# Maradona gutted after crushing defeat
Diego Maradona said every Bolivian goal was a stab in his heart after his Argentina side suffered a stunning 6-1 World Cup qualifying defeat at high altitude against the rank outsiders on Wednesday.
"I suffered with them (the Argentine public)," Maradona told reporters. "Every Bolivia goal was a stab in my heart.
"If we had dreamed this was going to happen before the game, we would have thought it was impossible," added Maradona, who himself appeared to be struggling for breath in a packed news conference room.
"We have to give merit to Bolivia who were better than us in every part of the field.
"There is nothing to say. They beat us well and now we have to start all over again.
"Bolivia played a great game and hit the target with every attack. They all played well from the goalkeeper to the last substitute."
Aku nak share dgn korang..
Aku tak pernah ke Bolivia tapi aku pernah berkali2 ke San Diego USA.
Dari San Diego ke Tiguana Mexico dan cross ke Mexicali

Here is the top 10 - and I (Tyler) have only included stadia in which a club or national football team regularly plays home matches. Wembley Stadium, with its 90,000 capacity, just makes the list. Please note that not all of these are exclusively used for football, althought they all have a football team playing there.

Argentina 1-3 Brazil: Selecao ensure qualification
Quote:
Brazil became the first South American nation to make it to the World Cup finals as they defeated old enemies Argentina 3-1 in the South American - League Group in Rosario. A brace by Luis Fabiano after a Luisao header opened the scoring helped the five-time world champions book their tickets to travel for South Africa next year.
It confirmed Brazil's qualification but leaves Argentina in fourth just two points ahead off the play-off places. Argentina started attacking Brazil from the start, Lionel Messi going wide with a left-footed shot in the 13th minute to rouse the home crowd. However, it was the visitors who took the lead 11 minutes later when Luisao headed home a Kaka free-kick past the Albicelestes goalkeeper Mariano Andujar.
The goal came from their first foray into the Argentina box and the shocked hosts almost pulled level two minutes later but Maximiliano Rodriguez failed to deflect Juan Sebastian Veron's free-kick. Instead, Brazil doubled their lead after half an hour. Maicon shot from Kaka's cross which Andujar saved the ball but the keeper failed to hold on to the ball and Sevilla striker Fabiano pounced on the rebound to slot home.
Argentina almost reduced the deficit seven minutes later when Rodriguez unleashed a shot following Carlos Tevez's right-wing cross but Brazil keeper Julio Cesar was equal to it.
Argentina were then grateful to Andujar when he blocked Lucio's header just before half-time, the goalkeeper proving to be the pick of the home players in the first half. Sergio Aguero replaced Rodriguez but the hosts were still having little joy despite enjoying more pressure.
However, they halved the deficit after 65 minutes when Napoli midfielder Jesus Datolo finally beat Cesar with a shot from outside the box
The hosts' optimism was short-lived though as Fabiano scored a second by finishing off a counter-attack.
Diego Milito, who replaced Tevez, could have given Argentina some hope with his 72nd-minute attempt, but Cesar thwarted his Inter Milan team-mate. As a result of the victory, Brazil confirmed their place in South Africa and have reached the 30-point mark.
Meanwhile, it was Argentina's first World Cup qualifying home defeat since September 5 1993, when they lost 5-0 to Colombia in Buenos Aires.
The two-time World Cup winners lie fourth on 22 points, only two in front of Colombia.

England 2 - 1 Slovenia: Defoe continues scoring streak
Quote:
Super-sub Jermain Defoe torpedoed Slovenia at Wembley as England warmed up for Wednesday's vital World Cup qualifier with Croatia with a worryingly difficult win.
Defoe said earlier this week he would be content to make an impact from the bench if Fabio Capello thought that was where he could do most damage.
And yet again, the Spurs forward immediately made an impact after replacing Emile Heskey, driving home his fifth goal in the last three internationals, all of which he has started among the substitutes.
Now Capello must decide whether to leave things as they are, or elevate Defoe into his starting line-up at Wembley next week, when the Three Lions know victory will book their place at South Africa 2010.
In fact, Capello has quite a lot of thinking to do. Robert Green suffered a couple of early problems and £22million defender Joleon Lescott allowed Zlatan Ljubijankic to escape his clutches near the end to bring Slovenia back into a game in which England enjoyed dominant spells without giving the impression of being in control.
In addition, Wayne Rooney failed to convert three fine chances to score in front of England's Ashes-winning heroes, having one shot blocked, another hit a post and a third booted off the line.
He could claim an assist for England's opener though as he was the man dragged down in the box to allow Frank Lampard to drive home the penalty.
As Slovenia were hand-picked by Capello as opponents who most mirror Croatia in both approach and style, the amount of time he spent at the edge of his technical area must be a concern.
Too often the visitors' pacy forwards were able to run at exposed England defenders, who in turn left Green vulnerable. The England keeper may have been making his fourth consecutive start but in international terms he is a rookie.
Much like David James in his 'Calamity' era, Green is prone to rushes of blood and if referee Jonas Eriksson had spotted a deliberate handball outside the area, England might have been playing with 10 men for 88 minutes.
If that wasn't enough, Green then came racing out of his goal to slide at the feet of Milivoje Novakovic after the English rearguard had been pierced. Thankfully, Novakovic chose to stay on his feet - and eventually curl a shot over - rather than dangle out a leg and wait for the contact.
Capello's agitation was obvious. Thankfully, the Three Lions stirred before their manager reached for his hairdryer. That Rooney was at the centre of England's revival did not come as a surprise.
The Manchester United striker had already glanced a near-post header wide from Glen Johnson's cross when he cut inside Miso Brecko and Cesar, then opened up his angle for a shot that would have tested the Slovenian goal if Cesar had not recovered his ground.
Terry thundered a header against the bar as a wave of confidence went coursing through English veins.
Still, it needed the assistance of Eriksson for England to get their goal.
It did seem Rooney was beating the ground more in frustration than expectation when he was sent tumbling by Cesar as the pair tussled to reach Steven Gerrard's cross.
But Eriksson was well disposed to England and had spotted the shirt-pulling that preceded it. Lampard drove home the spot-kick.
Rooney should really have scored himself on England's next decent attack when Matthew Upson stooped low to flick on Lampard's corner.
Most of the goal was gaping as Rooney took aim. But he could only strike the outside of a post.
In contrast to his fellow Merseysider, Gerrard had been slightly subdued. He almost produced a moment of pure class before the break through.
After collecting Gareth Barry's pass, Gerrard advanced on the Slovenian goal and let fly with a curling shot that nearly scraped the paint off a post so close did it come to going in.
As promised, Capello made four changes at the interval, which led to a rather disjointed opening to the second period.
But within 18 minutes of Defoe's arrival, he had taken his tally to five in what constitutes three second-half substitute appearances.
Fellow new arrival Aaron Lennon returned a pass to his Tottenham team-mate. Defoe still had plenty to do but found a shot which sliced through a gaggle of Slovenian defenders and ended up in the bottom corner.
For Rooney though, there was no end to the frustration as the lively Lennon darted into the box and cut a cross back the forward would normally have buried.
Instead he found the only man who could keep it out and Matej Mavricrozic bundled off the line.

everything is wrong when u didn't win the world cup
Fabio Capello has vowed to go all out for a ninth consecutive World Cup qualifying win in the game against Ukraine.
England have already sealed qualification for the finals in South Africa next summer and Capello could have used the match to assess the form of fringe players or experiment with the side's formation.
Instead, though, the Italian intends to treat the match exactly the same as the previous eight.
"For me this is not a friendly game. It is one of the games for World Cup qualifying and it will be very important.
"I have spoken with the players and said that we have to play this like the other games we have played.
"For the result tomorrow I will choose the best first XI.
"I always decide on the players to win the game and tomorrow will be the same."
antara game yang menarik minggu ni, russia lawan german...da penah discuss sebelum ni, yang mane game ni ultimately crucial untuk dapat auto spot in world cup...aku predict russia will prevail...
group 7, serbia leads 4 points clear of france...serbia will face a tough game against romania, but last game lawan lithuania...france plak, lawan faroe island n last game lawan austria...kalu ikot history, france memang penah je qualify dgn jalan yang susah...but to assume serbia will only gets 1 or 2 points out of 6, macam x logik la pulak...so, france will go for play-off, prediction...
