Cristiano Ronaldo is already making history at Real Madrid after becoming the first player to score in his four league games for the club.

The former Manchester United winger, who joined the Spanish giants in a world record £80 million move this summer, scored a superb early goal in Real's 2-0 win against 10-man Villarreal at the Estadio El Madrigal.

In the second minute of the La Liga clash Ronaldo galloped down the left wing, cut inside and struck with a low shot from just outside the penalty area to score his fifth league goal in four matches.

Kaka stepped up to double Real's lead from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute to secure their fourth win out of four to put them level on 12 points with champions and league leaders Barcelona.

Ronaldo, who scored inside the first minute in Sunday's 5-0 rout of promoted Xerez, said his early goal on Wednesday had thrown Villarreal off their stride.

"They are difficult to beat at home but we managed it and after Kaka's goal we were more in control," he said. "We were able to score in the opening minutes and this is always important, but the key thing is that we've been able to to take away the three points.

"We've had to work hard because they've put us under pressure from the start, but little by little we warmed up and we were able to play how we like."

Los Blancos striker Raul also made history on Wednesday night when he set a new record for league appearances for Real, overtaking defender Manolo Sanchis, when he came on as a substitute.

The 32-year-old former Spain international replaced Gonzalo Higuain in the 67th minute at El Madrigal and has now appeared for the club 524 times in the league since his debut against Real Zaragoza on October 29, 1994.
